DR. ROBERT B. MEIKLEJOHN On Tuesday December 2nd, 2008 Dr. Robert Meiklejohn passed away peacefully at home in his 102nd year. Beloved husband and best friend of 54 years of the late Kathleen Meiklejohn (nee Pryor), survived by his daughter Cathie (Bob Morrison), son John (Wendy Rombough) and grandchildren Kevin, Courtney, Brian and Scott. Proudly born in Har riston, Ontario Bob graduated in Medicine from the University of Toronto in 1932, and spent a year at the Jessop's Hospital for Women in Sheffield England, followed by an internship at the Chelsea Hospital in London. In 1940, he joined the Canadian 16th Field Ambulance 4th Armoured Division as a surgeon. In 1943, Bob now a major, served with the 3rd Canadian Field Surgical Unit attached to the British 10th and American 5th Army on the push through Italy. Following the war, he set up his obstetrics and gynaecological practice at St. Michael's Hospital then moved to the Toronto Western Hospital where he ser ved as Department Head from 1957 to 1970. He reluctantly retired in 1985 and occupied his time golfing, curling, gardening and sailing. He will best be remembered as a consummate gentleman, loving husband and father. Visitation will be held at the TRULL 'NORTH TORONTO' FUNERAL HOME, 2704 Yonge Street (5 blocks south of Lawrence) on Sunday, December 7th from 7-9 pm. Funeral Service will be held at GLENVIEW PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH (Glenview Ave at Yonge St.) on Monday, December 8th at 11 am. Interment will be held on Tuesday at Harriston Cemetery in Harriston, Ontario. If desired, donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
