JEANNIE PATRICIA NEWMAN Passed away peacefully on December 6th, 2008, at the Ottawa General Hospital in her 100th year. Jeannie was born August 27, 1909 in Oketoks Alberta, one of five children, all predeceased. She held a Masters in Library Science from the University of Cleveland (1968) and did her undergraduate studies at the University of Winnipeg in the 1930s. She was the Research Librarian for Lever Brothers in Toronto and the founding Chief Librarian of the Centre for Industrial Relations Library at the University of Toronto. She wrote The Canadian Business Handbook, which was published by McGraw-Hill Ryerson in three editions: 1964, 1967 and 1979. Jeannie was also the family archivist. She was an active participant in the Academy of Life-Long Learning at the University of Toronto until she moved to Ottawa five years ago to be closer to her beloved niece, Joan Kuyek. She resided at Rideau Place on the River. She mentored and loved many generations of the family, and was a caring friend to many others. She will be missed by us all for her sense of humour, open mind and keen intelligence. At Jeannie's request, a small private service will be held. However, friends who want to send remembrances can send them to David Newman, One River Lane, Winnipeg, R2M 3Y8. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Jeannie's name to the Sudbury Better Beginning Education Fund, 450 Morin Street, Sudbury, ON P3C 5H6.
