KEDDIE, Douglas Donald Gould - 96, Annapolis Royal, Middleton and Ottawa, died August 23, 2005, in Annapolis Royal Nursing Home. Born in Toronto, Ont., he was a son of the late William George Keddie and Emma Morgan Keddie. He graduated from Glebe Collegiate, Ottawa, then the Royal Military College, Kingston. After serving for several years in the Royal Canadian Air Force, he joined the Royal Air Force. Twenty five years of service in the RAF took him to Singapore, Malta, North Africa, Italy, Paris, England and Scotland, as well as other locations. Upon retirement from the RAF in 1957, he moved to Ottawa and was employed by the Department of Transportation, Government of Canada. He retired from civil service in 1973 and moved to Almonte, Ont., where he was curator of the Mill of Kintail Museum for five years. In 1983, he moved to Middleton. Don was devoted to his family, very proud of his daughters and grandchildren. He enjoyed canoeing, camping, birdwatching and outdoor activities. He loved music, history and genealogy. Don treasured his many years in Great Britain. He was very proud of his Air Force service which culminated in his appointment as Station Commander at RAF Kinloss in Scotland. Throughout his life, despite battling Alzheimer's disease in his later years, Don retained his gentlemanly ways, his positive attitude and his sense of humour. He will be much missed. He is survived by his daughters, Hope Rhodes, Ferndown, Dorset, England; Melissa Keddie, Annapolis Royal; Penny Fraser and her husband Arthur, Victoria, B.C.; grandchildren, Amanda (Sandy) Scott, Julie and Nicola Rhodes, Bronwen Keddie, Liam O'Leary, Jennifer Fraser, and several stepgrandchildren. He is also survived by sister, Muriel (Scotty) Mester, Aventura, Fla. He was predeceased by first wife, Dione Bannerman Todman (Dangerfield); his second wife, Joan Frances Keddie (Reeves); brother, William Morgan Keddie, and sisters, Helen Keddie and Margaret Tallman; son-in-law, Kenneth Rhodes. Cremation has taken place. Burial will be in Beechwood Cemetery, Ottawa, at a later date. Donations in memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia.
